An 11-year-old boy, Braydon Smith, has attacked a burglar with a machete after his home in Mebane, North Carolina, United States, was broken into.
The boy single-handedly defeated a suspected home intruder last Friday while he was home alone.
It was not the first time Smith’s home was broken into.
“It went by really fast and I knew that I didn’t have any time to think about what I was going to do,” he told CNN affiliate WTVD.
Braydon further said that the suspected intruders came in when his mother was out.
The boy said he was asked to go into his closet which he did.
As soon as one of the suspects got into the living room to grab the boy’s phone, Braydon got hold of a machete and hit him in the back of the head.
After the 19-year-old intruder was hurt, he kicked Braydon in the stomach and the side of the head before grabbing a PlayStation and a television.
The suspect, bleeding heavily, soon dropped the electronics and fled with the others.
Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a statement that the family and community are “very lucky this event did not have a tragic ending for the child.”
The injured intruder has been caught by the police.
