14-year-old autistic artist sets new Guinness Book World Record for largest artwork

Kanyeyachukwu Okeke, a 14-year-old autistic artist, has broken the Guinness Book World Record for the largest artwork.

He unveiled his masterpiece, “Impossible is a Myth,” at Eagle Square in Abuja on Wednesday to mark the 2025 World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD).

The artwork, spanning 12,303 square meters, drew cheers and admiration from the audience, including dignitaries, art enthusiasts and members of the autism community.

The event was graced by the minister of art, culture, tourism and the creative economy, Hannatu Musawa, as the special guest of honour.

Musawa commended Kanyeyachukwu’s talent and perseverance.

“Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement is not just a record-breaking feat but a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the limitless possibilities of neurodiverse individuals,” she said.

“His work will inspire young artists and serve as a beacon of hope for those facing challenges.”

His mother, Dr. Silvia Tagbo-Okeke, expressed gratitude for the recognition of her son’s abilities.

“My son’s achievement is a reminder that every child has the potential to excel, regardless of their abilities,” she said.

A representative from the autism community lauded the young artist’s impact, stating, “Kanyeyachukwu’s artwork is not only a masterpiece but also a symbol of hope and inspiration for individuals with autism and their families.”

The Guinness World Records adjudicator was present at the event to officially verify and present Kanyeyachukwu with his certificate, solidifying his place in history.

Other dignitaries include Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as the Chief Host and Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State at FCT, as Co-Host.

Fola David, who is a Guinness World Record holder, was also present to show his support to Kanyeyachukwu.

Kanyeyachukwu started painting at age two, showing an early inclination toward art by scribbling abstract forms on paper and the walls of his family’s home in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The young artist has also held a solo exhibition in Dubai titled ‘FAT,’ an acronym for Fabulous, Autistic and Talented.

According to his father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke, the family engaged in the art exhibition for two major reasons: first, to showcase Kanye’s art and passion and second, to raise awareness that children living with autism need to be catered to.

He added that the family wants to take the art show all over the world.
