Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has lost his teenage son Sadiq Bature to post-surgery complications.
The 15-year-old died in a hospital in India on Thursday.
He suffered excruciating pains from sickle cell anaemia from birth before his eventual death.
Dawakin-Tofa said in a social media post that the deceased was his first child.
“This morning, I lost my first child Sadiq (Modibbo) Bature at age of 15. He lived as a good, brilliant and obedient child,” he wrote.
“Throughout his life, Modibbo has suffered from sickle cell anaemia which he undergone a successful bone marrow transplant this month in an Indian hospital. Unfortunately, he died as a result of a post-surgery complications in his brain.
“The body of our beloved Saddiku would be brought back home in few days for burial in according with Islamic rites in my home town, Dawakin-Tofa. Date and time would be announced on arrival of his remains.”
