2 men in court for allegedly stealing neighbour’s phone, money

Two unemployed men, who allegedly stole their neighbour’s mobile phone valued at N45,000 and N122,000 cash, on Thursday, appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police charged Jamilu Babangida, 24, and Goke Adegunju, 24, who both live in Mushin, Lagos with conspiracy,  theft and unlawful possession of a gun.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chekube Okeh told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 2.

Okeh said that the complainant, Mr Umar Ahmed, reported that his wife purse which contained a  Tecno Spark cell phone valued at N45,000 and N122,000 cash, was stolen from their apartment

The prosecutor alleged that when the police searched the defendants’ room, the stolen phone was recovered.

Okeh also said that a locally made single barrel pistol was also recovered from the defendants’ room.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287, 312 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Akinde admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Akinde adjourned the case until Dec. 4 for mention.
