Actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has reflected on the challenges of 2024 as she marks her birthday with gratitude.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, she shared a video capturing memorable moments with her family, accompanied by a heartfelt message about the difficulties she faced last year.
“IT’S MY BIRTHDAYYYYY!!! Long post alert,” she began.
“2024 really tried to take the wind out of my sail, so I am so grateful to be here celebrating my life and God’s faithfulness.”
Adesua recounted battling hyperemesis for months, being hospitalized and discovering that her husband, Banky W, needed another surgery for a cancerous tumor—all while she was pregnant.
She also revealed that she had to undergo an emergency C-section and endure a difficult healing process.
“I want to thank all the doctors who looked after me in Lagos, Nigeria, and the team in Washington DC that pretty much saved my life. I am here, and I am grateful,” she wrote, also appreciating her husband. “Banky, I love you to life.”
She expressed gratitude to those who showed her grace, even without knowing what she was going through.
“My village of people is incredible. God has used this season to stretch me and show me that I am capable of much more than I ever realised. Now? NOW, I am coming for everything that’s mine. Nothing and nobody can stop me.”
Her close friend actress Jemima Osunde also surprised her, which she described as “the best gift ever.”
Musician-turned-politician Banky W, also celebrated his wife with a touching Instagram post.
“The truth is… people change. We evolve into different versions of ourselves over time. And the prayer is that as you and your partner evolve over the years, you’ll be just as into each other as you were when you first met,” he wrote.
Reflecting on their journey, he added, “Susu, Year 8 has been our best year yet. I’ve watched you grow. Can’t wait for the world to see you shine.
“No matter what the future holds, I’m yours, and you’re mine. Happy birthday, baby. I’ll be by your side until you’re 80. Then, we’ll have to negotiate with God about eternity.”
The couple got engaged in February 2017 and had their traditional wedding on November 19, 2017, followed by a court wedding on November 20 and a white wedding in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 25.
Their journey to parenthood included a miscarriage of twins and unsuccessful IVF attempts before they welcomed their first son, Hazaiah Olusegun Wellington, in January 2021.
In October 2024, they announced they were expecting again and by November, they welcomed another baby boy.
