Twenty-seven more staff of a customer experience provider, iSON Xperiences, in Ibadan, Oyo State, have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The new cases were among 28 in Oyo reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday night.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, tweeted on Friday, saying most of them were asymptomatic.
“The COVID-19 confirmation tests for twenty-eight suspected cases came back POSITIVE. Twenty-seven are from iSON Xperiences and the last case is from Akinyele Local Government Area. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State is 190,” he wrote.
“Let me reassure you, as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, that we are doing everything in our power to contain the spread of this disease, given the recent increase in numbers.
“The upside is that majority of the COVID-19 cases in Oyo State have relatively mild or no symptoms. This means that with the proper management of cases that we have put in place, they will recover without any complications.”
The downside of being asymptomatic, he continued, is that “they can easily spread the virus unknowingly.”
The governor urged the public to adhere to guidelines on frequent hand washing with soap and water, physical distancing and the use of face mask in public places.
Qed.ng had reported on Monday how 30 out of 31 coronavirus cases reported in Oyo State on Saturday, May 18 were all staff of iSON Xperiences.
It also reported on Wednesday that six of the company’s staff tested positive for the deadly virus. On Thursday, the state confirmed 15 staff of the company tested positive for the virus.
This brings the total number of staff of iSON Xperiences confirmed to have COVID-19 to 78.
