I’m raising money for my kidnappers, 2Baba says at Lagos show

Seven weeks after he was declared missing by his family, music icon Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia has resurfaced, quelling fears about his wellbeing.

The 49-year-old made a surprise appearance at comedian Acapella’s show Two Kings & A Guy held on Saturday at Eko Hotel, Lagos.

While performing, he addressed the rumours of his alleged disappearance with humour.

“Okay, you know what’s happening—allegedly I have been missing, I have been kidnapped. As we came for Acapella’s show—this show is to generate money for the kidnappers to release,” he joked.

2Baba’s statement comes after a storm of speculation over his sudden withdrawal from social media, which coincided with the end of his marriage to Annie Idibia and a whirlwind engagement to Natasha Osawaru, Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.

On February 14, his family filed a petition with the State Security Service (SSS), raising alarm over his whereabouts.

According to the letter signed by lawyer Wilson Anuge, the singer had not been seen or heard from since February 10 after leaving home in loungewear.

His family said they feared he had been abducted, especially as his career activities stalled and his social media pages behaved unusually.

The saga intensified after a video surfaced showing 2Baba proposing to Natasha just 17 days after publicly parting ways with Annie.

In the video, he was seen serenading her and slipping a ring on her finger—reminiscent of his 2012 proposal to Annie.

The development prompted strong reactions from his family.

His mother, Rose Idibia, accused Natasha of casting a spell on him and publicly pleaded for her to release her son.

Despite the backlash, the pair have made several public appearances together, including Ita Giwa’s 79th birthday celebration and a visit to the home of the Esama of Benin, fuelling talks of a secret wedding.

In March, Natasha referred to 2Baba as her “hubby” in a viral Snapchat video while applying makeup on him.

More recently, the two were spotted holding hands at the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal.
