Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to test their might against one of the world’s best footballing nation, Argentina, in an international friendly.
As hinted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ,the test game will take place in the Russian city of Krasnodar on November 14.
Both sides will be aiming to use the clash to fine-tune their preparations for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
But it seems as though, Nigeria have more to gain from the encounter .
Here are four reasons Nigerians should relish the clash.
- Argentina are two-time world champions
What other way to prepare for the world cup than facing a former champion? Having won the Mundial twice, Argentina pose a stern test for the Africans who have never gone past the second round.
- Fourth best team at the moment
According to the recent FIFA Rankings, Jorge Sampaoli’s lads are ranked fourth in the world. That’s almost 40 places above the Super Eagles. Not only will a win improve Nigeria’s rating but also their confidence level going into to the tournament proper.
- One of the best attacks in the world
Even without the likes Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez, Argentina still flaunt one of the most deadly frontlines in the world. Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paulo Dybala, Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria amongst others will provide a big test for Gernot Rohr’s defence.
- Revenge on the cards
There’s a bit of bad blood between both teams. Nigeria have faced the South Americans thrice out of the five times they’ve qualified for the World Cup, Â losing all. Also at the youth level, the Albiceleste have stopped Nigeria from winning the FIFA U20 World Cup and Olympic Gold.
