Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, recently called up Austrian-based forward, Olarenwaju Kayode, as a replacement for injured Victor Osimhen.
The 23-year-old will provide option for the German tactician in attack ahead of the forthcoming friendlies against Burkina Faso and Senegal in London.
But who is this latest invitee to the national team?
Here are four things to know about the player.
- Never been capped by the Super Eagles
Kayode has never played for the Eagles despite his remarkable goalscoring record in Europe. The forward was constantly overlooked by previous national team coaches and might not have even been considered if not for Osimhen’s injury.
- Represented Nigeria at all other cadres
Bar the senior national team, Kayode has played for Nigeria at all other levels. He was part of the Golden Eaglets teams that finished runners-up at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup on home soil as well as the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia. He also featured for the U23 team same year – making three appearances for the Dream Team
- He is fifth top scorer in Austria
Kayode, who currently plays for Austria Wein, has scored 15 goals in all competitions thus far this season. The 23-year-old has notched eight goals and three assists in the league alone – making him the fifth top scorer in Austria.
- He is a proud father of two
Outside the pitch, Kayode is a proud and loving family man. He is married to Zinny, a lawyer, and together they have two lovely sons and he doesn’t shy away from flaunting them on social media.
