A four-year-old Nigerian boy has died after he was locked in a hot car in South Carolina, United States, according to official reports.
Richland County Coroner, Gary Watts, said at a news conference on Friday last week that the child, Zion Akinrefon, died on Wednesday at a Midlands hospital.
The boy suffered from complications of probable hyperthermia, Mr Watts said.
Akinrefon, who lived in Maryland, was visiting relatives in South Carolina.
He was last seen watching television when he apparently went missing. His mother later found him in the back of the family’s car.
Police are not filing charges for now.
His death, authorities say, marks the first hot car death in the county since 2015.
