With reports that Triple MG’s Tekno is on the verge of joining Wizkid, Davido and Ycee on Sony Music, Nigerian music lovers are wondering why some of their favourite stars have been snubbed by the record label.
Below are five Nigerian musicians that many think should have been offered a distribution deal by Sony.
- 2face
The 41-year-old singer has been constantly ignored by international record labels. Unlike his counterparts like P-Square and D’banj who have been signed to Konvict Muzik and Sony Music respectively.
- Falz
The 26-year-old rapper/actor is an independent artiste who is not signed with any record label. With his popularity after winning the 2016 edition of the BET Awards for the Viewers Choice International Act category, it is a little surprising that the ‘Soft Work’ musician has not clinched a recording contract of his own.
- Flavour
Although the Enugu-born singer owns his own record label called 2nite-Enter-10-Ment, he has not been recognised by Sony Music. With the release of back to back hit singles, fans of the father-of-two have expressed disappointment at the snub.
- Kiss Daniel
The ‘Woju’ hit maker has won the hearts of all and sundry since his thrust into the spotlight. The 22-year-old has a winning face and personality and a scandal free career.
- Praiz
Since finishing as the second runner-up at the 2008 edition of music talent show, Project Fame, the 32-year-old has not slowed down. With romantic songs like, ‘If I Fall’, ‘Rich and Famous’, ‘Lost in You’ and ‘Believe in Love’, the artiste should have attracted a Sony recording deal of his own.
