Peter Obi of the Labour Party is a frontrunner in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
Very few people saw him coming, given that he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until May 2022.
Mr Obi was in fact the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general elections.
Among those driving his presidential campaign are entertainers, with actresses playing a major role.
Here are five of the actresses campaigning for Peter Obi.
Iyabo Ojo
The mother of two broke ranks with her Yoruba colleagues to declare support for Obi in an Instagram post on February 10.
“I Alice Iyabo Ojo strongly believe in Peter Obi & I stand Obedient in my choice whether he wins or not…” she wrote.
Although she has fraternised with supporters of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the past, the 45-year-old is unapologetic in her support for the former Anambra State governor.
Patience Ozokwo
The 64-year-old popularly known as Mama G publicly declared her support for Peter Obi on October 3, 2022, at an event by a group named 40Million Ballots Movements to support the Labour Party presidential candidate.
Speaking at the event, Patience Ozokwo said if Nigeria had got leadership right, its material resources would have made the country stand out in the world.
She also said that celebrities were solidly behind Obi to provide the right leadership for the nation.
Hilda Dokubo
Hilda Dokubo is contesting the Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the Labour Party platform.
“My dear people, I write to apply. Yours OBIdiently,” she wrote in an Instagram post on September 28.
Like Obi, Hilda left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Labour Party.
The 52-year-old was a special adviser to former Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State.
Nkechi Blessing
The 34-year-old publicly declared her support for Peter Obi while giving a speech at the premiere of the movie ‘SENAME’ on October 2, 2022.
“I am proudly Obidient,” she said.
Nkechi was present at Obi’s meeting with key players in the entertainment industry in Lagos on February 9.
She posted a video with the ex-governor on her Instagram on Wednesday, February 22 with the caption “@peterobigregory My guy.”
Kate Henshaw
Another actress who attended Peter Obi’s meeting with entertainers in Lagos, Kate Henshaw said she was there to support Peter Obi for the office of the president of Nigeria.
She said Obi has never shied away from addressing issues head-on or talking to people.
