Police in Delta on Tuesday said they arrested 67 gay suspects carrying out a gay wedding ceremony in a hotel.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan signed the anti-gay law in 2014. The law stipulates a 14-year prison term for anyone convicted of having sex with members of the same sex.
Delta State Police Command paraded the suspects live on Facebook.
The Command’s spokesman Bright Edafe addressed the media during the parade.
Sharing photos of the suspects on X, Edafe wrote, “Delta State Police Command has arrested 67 gay suspects at a hotel on 28/8/2023. They were at a suspected gay wedding ceremony between Daniel Pius ‘m’ (groom) and Maxwell Ohwonowho (bride) at Teebulus Hotel along Refinery Road, Ekpan. I paraded them today at Ekpan Police Station.”
In December 2020, the Lagos State Police Command arrested 10 individuals suspected of homosexual activities in a brothel located in the Okota area of the state.
Earlier in 2018, the police in the state paraded 57 men for alleged homosexual activities at Kelly Ann hotel in Egbeda.
In January 2022, eight alleged homosexuals were arrested in a hotel in Isolo, Lagos for alleged gay activities.
