The 2017 UEFA Champion League quarterfinals encounter between defending champions, Real Madrid, and German champions, Bayern Munich, featured a lot of interesting plays, facts and incredible records.
Ballon d’Or holder and FIFA World Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored two goals in the 2-1 first leg away win at the Allianz Arena in Germany and bagged a hat-trick as the Spanish giants ran out 4-2 winners at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.
Below are some of the jaw-breaking records the 32-year-old broke as Real saw off Bayern 6-3 on aggregate.
- Ronaldo broke Europe’s record by being the first footballer to score 100 European goals with his 77′ second goal during the first leg with Bayern, even on German soil!
- He also broke UEFA Champions League record by being the first footballer to score 100 UEFA Champions League goals with his 109′ third goal during the second leg match. Out of the centurion goals, he netted 68 with his right foot, 15 with his left foot and scored 17 headers.
- Ronaldo’s hat-trick in the second-leg of the encounter makes it his 46 career hat-tricks for both club and country. One of those was scored during his days at Manchester United; another for his national team, Portugal; while he has bagged a whopping 41 hat-tricks for Real Madrid!
- After the encounters, Ronaldo has now scored over 30 goals in all of his eight seasons at Real Madrid in all competitions. No football play has this record.
- Also, with his goals aiding his team in winning their for the 12th UEFA Champions League trophy and on a record breaking consecutive win, Ronaldo has scored more quarter-final goals in all history of Champions League than anyone else with a record of 20 goals.
- Ronaldo is now Real Madrid’s top scorer on home ground, Bernabeu, in all competitions, with 213 goals, surpassing previous record holder, Di Stefano, who has 209 goals.
- Ronaldo has also scored nine goals in his six encounters with Bayern Munich, making him the footballer with the highest goals against any German team in UEFA Champions League.
- Ronaldo has scored 17 quarter-final goals in 17 appearances; the most in all history of the Champions League. As an addition, he is now five goals away from scoring his 400th Real Madrid goal in just 386 appearances for the club. He is also 14 goals away from scoring his 600th career goal.
