The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Katsina State Command, has rescued a nine-month-old baby and nine other minors from suspected human traffickers.
Katsina NIS Comptroller, Ajisafe Olusola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Olusola said that two suspected traffickers, Deborah Adewunmi, 29, and Moriliya Ibrahim, 31, were arrested on February 11 following a tip off.
He also said the rescued children were all below age 11.
According to him, investigation revealed that the suspects were conveying the minors to Libya through Niger Republic without valid travel documents.
“One of the suspects confessed that they are going to meet her husband who is residing in Agadez, Niger Republic to facilitate their journey to Libya.
“They also claimed that they ran out of funds to feed themselves, children, and transport money to go further from Katsina,’’ he said.
The state NIS boss also said the suspects and their victims would be handed over to the Kano zonal office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigation.
