Premier League title contenders, Manchester City and Liverpool, are following Nigeria’s rising star, Samuel Chukwueze, Daily Mail has reported.
The English clubs have both identified the 19-year-old Villarreal winger as a potential summer signing after monitoring his progress over the past year.
Chukwueze is a quick and skillful wide player who likes to start on the right and cut in to shoot with his favoured left foot.
He has been likened to Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben in style and was named Nigeria Football Federation’s 2018 Young Player of the year this month.
Arsenal, Leicester City and Atletico Madrid were all linked with the teenager at the start of the season but his rapid development has catapulted him into the focus of City and Liverpool.
Known as Samu, he has scored eight goals this season and has a buy-out clause set at £54million though Villarreal may be willing to accept a lower amount up front with guaranteed bonuses.
The Flying Eagles invitee has, however, not decided on his future.
“For now I don’t have anything to say about that. There will always be speculations about a player’s future but until the end of the season, I am a player of Villarreal.
“Maybe when the season end we can now decide on what will happen in the nearest future,” he told AOIFootball.com.
