The event themed ‘Family Awareness, International Awareness’ will be held on May 11 at Eagles Club, Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere , Lagos at noon.
International Day of Families is observed yearly on May 15. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 to reflect the importance the international community attaches to family.
Creative Director of Entertainment Bus-Stop, Eki Eboigbe, said that marking the International Day of Families gives Entertainment Bus-Stop an opportunity to create platform for continuous conversations, and an urgent need to proffer solutions to the cancerous malady rampaging the society such as mental health, child sexual molestation, drug abuse and financial crimes.
Eboigbe said: “The family unit, being the first point of socialization is very vital when it is properly nurtured to create an ambience of serenity, spiced with kindness, honesty and respect for self and others.
“The society, through government interventions in sustainability and empowerment will create enduring structure and reward system, which will benefit and imprint an indelible mark on the mind-set/psyche of the citizenry towards responsive governance and stir up participatory civic responsibility.
“Concerted efforts must be deplored by all stakeholders to change the narratives. It is our share responsibility to restore, sustain and promote the family unit values. The family is the most effective place to instill lasting values in its members.
“It is thus important to strengthen and safeguard the family. Families bond when they do meaningful things together. It is a sustainable added value to citizens towards self and state development.”
