Emir Sanusi’s emirate reduced to 10 LGAs out of 44

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has had his emirate reduced to 10 local government areas following the new bill passed by the Kano State House of Assembly.

The Assembly on Wednesday passed the bill which was introduced on Monday for the creation of four new emirates for Gaya, Bichi, Karaye and Rano.

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has opened fresh probe on Sanusi for alleged misappropriation of funds.

It is alleged that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is trying to reduce Sanusi’s growing influence after the Emir failed to support his re-election bid.

As a result of the bill passed by the assembly, Kano now has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi.

The local governments under Kano emirate controlled by Sanusi are: Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, Nassarawa, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso, Ungogo, Dawakin Kudu and Minjibir.

Under Karaye Emirate are Karaye, Rogo, Gwarzo, Kabo, RiminGado, Madobi and Garun Malam local government.

Bichi Emirate comprises Bichi, Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Makoda, Danbatta, Dawakin Tofa and Tofa LGAs.

The lawmakers listed Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya, Takai, Sumaila, Kura, Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Kiru and Bebeji LGAs under Rano Emirate.

Gaya Emirate is made up of Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu, Wudil, Garko, Warawa, Gezawa and Gabasawa LGAs.

The four proposed emirates are presently being headed by district heads and if upgraded, will have emirs as heads.
