Former Nigerian international, Kanu Nwankwo, has appointed Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, as patron of the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF).
The monarch was presented the appointment letter at his palace in Ile-Ife which makes him the foundation’s patron.
The two-time African footballer of the year award winner and his team were received at the palace by several troupes of traditional dancers.
They were also taken on a tour of historical sites in the ancient city.
On accepting the appointment, Oba Adeyeye said Kanu had touched the heart of God through his foundation.
“God is love and anyone who is able to show love to humanity has touched God,” he said.
“That is the purpose of God bestowing wealth to people in order to help the poor.”
Kanu thanked the Ooni for the warm reception granted him and his team.
“I will always remain grateful for your humility and open mind, Kabiyesi,” Kanu said.
KHF coordinator, Onyebuchi Abia, informed the monarch that the foundation had carried out 562 open heart surgery since inception in 2000.
