The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), has mourned the death of foremost filmmakers, Chief Eddie Ugbomah, who passed on over the weekend.
Ugbomah, renowned for films like Rise and Fall of Oyenusi, Death of a Black President and The Boy is Good, died at the age of 78 on Saturday, May 11.
Alhaji Sanusi Sambo, acting chief executive of NFC, described the death as ‘shocking and painful,’ adding that the creative industry has lost an irreparable rare gem.
According to Alhaji Sambo, the NFC witnessed a monumental take off and stability as the pivot film agency in Nigeria when Chief Ugbomah served as the Chairman of its Board.
“Most of the achievements of the NFC today are tied to the foundational direction the late Ugbomah and other members of his Board gave to management of the corporation,” he said.
Chief Eddie Ugbomah was appointed the Chairman of NFC Board, by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Babangida (GCFR) and served from February 1988 to February 1991.
During his tenure, the NFC colour laboratory came on full stream for the processing of films shot on celluloid.
The Federal Government has also expressed shock and sadness at the death of Ugbomah calling him a worthy pioneer of today’s burgeoning Nollywood industry.
