A 38-year-old trader, Amarachi Ogbuehi, has been arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly obtaining N900,000 under the guise of securing an Oman visa for a man.
Ogbuehi is a resident of 18, Alaje Street, Egbeda, Lagos.
On her arraignment on Thursday for conspiracy, fraud, stealing and forgery, she pleaded not guilty.
Police prosecutor, Ishola Samuel, told the court that the defendant conspired with another person who is at large to commit the said offence on April 10, 2017 at Old Abeokuta Motor Road, Agege, Lagos.
Mr Samuel said Ogbuehi collected N900,000 from the complainant, Kennedy Jonathan, under the pretext of securing Oman visa for him.
The court heard that the defendant forged an Oman visa and gave it to the complainant as genuine.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287, 314, 365 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate I. A. Abina granted Ogbuehi bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate also ruled that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until June 3 for mention.
