Six persons have been feared trapped after a building collapsed Wednesday at Ezenwa Street, Onitsha, Anambra state.
The four-storey building still under construction before the fall was said to have collapsed at about 1:45 pm.
Eyewitnesses say the fall might be connected to weak building materials.
Rescue operations have begun at the scene of the incident.
As at press time, two persons have been rescued alive.
The site engineer and several others are still believed to be trapped in the debris.
Chairman, Red Cross Society in Anambra State, Prof. Peter Katchy, said the rescued casualties are receiving treatment in hospitals.
“One of the persons rescued by Red Cross is at the intensive care at Holy Rosary Hospital Waterside Onitsha, while another is at General Hospital Onitsha.
“Four are still trapped under the debris of the collapsed building including the site engineer. The excavator and an earth-moving vehicle have just arrived now,” he said.
