Wife of the Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Modele Fatoyinbo, has come under attack by Nigerians on social media after she defended her husband, saying he is not a rapist.
Modele stood by her husband, Biodun Fatoyinbo, while addressing the church on Sunday after Biodun came under criticism over the weekend following rape allegations.
Busola Dakolo, wife of singer and songwriter, Timi Dakolo, had on Friday accused Fatoyinbo of raping her about 20 years ago.
“My husband is not a rapist. Even if he was not a believer, he would not be a rapist,” Modele said.
Before she could complete her speech, her husband quickly grabbed the microphone and added “the elders are handling the matter.”
The rape allegation caused a storm over the weekend with many calling for the pastor’s arrest and others showing their support for the preacher.
Protesters also gathered at the church’s branches in Lagos and Abuja on Sunday.
Security operatives were deployed at the church’s premises to prevent breakdown of law and order.
Nigerians on Twitter have shown their displeasure at Modele for supporting her husband despite Ese Walter also making similar allegation against Fatoyinbo in 2013.
