Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has sacked eight commissioners from the state executive council said to be loyal to the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

Mr Obaseki terminated their appointment on Wednesday according to a report by Premium Times.

They are the commissioner for energy and water resources, Joseph Ugheoke; commissioner for women affairs and social development, Magdalene Ohenhen; commissioner for infrastructure, Osahon Amiolemen.

Others are the commissioner for health, David Osifo; commissioner for youth and special duties, Mika Amanokha; commissioner for budget, Mariam Abubakar; commissioner for wealth creation, cooperatives and employment, Emmanuel Usoh; and commissioner for science and technology, Christopher Adesotu.

Obaseki has since nominated replacements for the sacked commissioners.

The feud between Obaseki and Oshiomhole became public when the Edo State House of Assembly was hurriedly inaugurated and a speaker elected at night with only nine lawmakers present.

The other lawmakers said to be loyal to Oshimhole were reportedly left out to prevent the APC national chairman from gaining influence over the assembly.

Two lawmakers later joined the nine already inaugurated lawmakers to bring the number of those in support of the governor to 11.

The assembly and the state government on Wednesday secured an interim order from a Federal High Court in Benin City, restraining the APC from “interfering” in the affairs of the state legislature.
