UI management vows to raise perimeter fence after gunmen attack

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN UI

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has vowed to raise the perimeter fence of the halls that are close to its boundary with the Polytechnic of Ibadan.

The university’s action came after gunmen invaded a female hostel, Obafemi Awolowo hall, early Friday injuring two students and carting away several valuables.

UI Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, told journalists that wire marsh would be placed on the fence to prevent intruders.

“We have been security conscious that was why we raised the perimeter fence around the hall.

“It is one of our halls that are close to the boundary of the university and the Polytechnic of Ibadan; therefore, many things had been tampered with.

“However, we will raise the perimeter fence further and then put wire marsh that would prevent anyone from coming in.

“We would also complete the perimeter fencing of the entire hall and increase the number of our security personnel manning the hall every night,” he said.

Adebowale said one of the injured students jumped and had a dislocation, not a fracture.

He added that the commissioner of police, Shine Olukolu, and other officers had visited the scene of the incident, adding that investigation had begun.
