UK-based Nigerian comedian, Wale Gates, has urged Nigerian VIPs to abandon their security details for a week to prove the nation’s safety.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduate asked for this in a tweet on Monday.
“Fellow Nigerians! Due to Tinubu’s recent public remarks, I’ll like to suggest that all 🇳🇬VIPs have their police escort withdrawn from them. So the will of God can happen to everybody together at the same time. Just for a week,” he wrote.
On Friday, Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s, daughter, Funke Olakunri, was killed by an armed gang on Kajola-Ore road, Ondo State.
National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Sunday paid a condolence visit to Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State.
Tinubu, who was accompanied by a former national chairman of APC, Bisi Akande, said the murder of Olakunrin was sad and unacceptable.
Reacting to concerns on whether the killers of Olakunrin were herdsmen or not, Tinubu said, “Excuse me, I am extremely concerned about security and I don’t want a stigma.
“I can go through the history of kidnapping and you are mature enough. We know how it started, where it all started, there are a lot of copycats.
“How many years ago have we faced insecurity in this country and cases of kidnapping, is Evans who was arrested, and his disclosure, then a herdsman? I don’t want to be political. The question is ‘where are the cows?’”
