Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has released N108 million as running grants to all public schools in the state.
Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Foluso Daramola, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Daramola, over N52 million was released to all public primary schools in the state for the three terms of 2018/2019 academic session.
He added that over N56 million was also released as running grants to 208 public secondary schools for second and third terms of the 2018/2019 academic session.
The commissioner lamented that despite the fact that the Fayemi-led administration declared tuition-free in all public schools in Ekiti State, some schools are reported to be sending students out of school for not paying ‘illegal’ fees.
He said that any school administrator caught collecting such fees would be suspended after due investigation.
Daramola affirmed that education is free and compulsory up to senior secondary school levels in all public schools in Ekiti.
