A humanitarian organisation, Action Against Hunger, has said that its worker has been killed in an attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
The organisation, in a statement on Friday, said the incident occurred on Thursday when its convoy was heading to Damasak in Borno State.
“One of the drivers was killed, while one Action Against Hunger staff member, two of the drivers and three health workers are missing,” the statement said.
The organisation said it was saddened by the tragic incident as “these are colleagues dedicated to providing life-saving assistance to individuals and families affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the north east of Nigeria.”
For the missing ones, the organisation said it was “very concerned and want to ensure that they are safe and can be reunited with their families.”
The attack comes 24 hours after an army commander and some soldiers were killed in an ambush by the insurgents in Yobe State.
Action Against Hunger helps with ensuring that internally displaced persons in the northeastern part of the country receive “essential services required for their survival, especially women and children.”
In October, a faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), also executed an aid worker with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Hauwa Leman.
