Nollywood actor and director, Desmond Elliot, has praised President of Liberia, George Weah, for making a generous donation to women journalists in Liberia.
The 45-year-old
lawmaker revealed that he had been at the event on the invitation of Weah in an
Instagram post on Monday.
“A DAY WITH
THE LIBERIAN PRESIDENT GEORGE WEAH Empathy, altruism, humane, humility, ultra
sacrifice- all this embody this man I have come to know first as a friend
turned brother and of course, the President of the very historic nation of
Liberia- one of Africa’s oldest nations,” he started.
He revealed that at a fund-raising ceremony for the female journalists, Mr Weah had presented only a box, however, in the box was a key to a new bus.
“Then came
the MOMENT OF HISTORY. When it was his turn, he presented a small box- in it
contained a one (1) dollar coin and of course, you would be wondering, “is this
what Mr President is donating?”, but wait till you hear the full story. In the
bus, was a key to a brand new bus he donated to the women journalists,” he
wrote.
Desmond Elliot called on the government to curtail the
influx of foreign movies to help Nollywood grow in a video that went viral on
Monday.
Elliot said this in an interview with HIP TV.
“Ban all foreign content, you know, make it difficult for
foreign content to come in, so your own local content can grow and then, you
need to support,” he said.
The Husbands of Lagos actor also said that the government needed to create an enabling environment for the entertainment business to thrive.
