Former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has congratulated the newly-elected leader of the Conservative Party, Boris Johnson.
Mr Murray-Bruce shared a picture of himself with Mr Johnson on Tuesday via Twitter, saying that there was no one better to lead the United Kingdom ‘at this critical time’.
“Congratulations @BorisJohnson on your emergence as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. There couldn’t have been anyone better to lead the United Kingdom at this critical time. Congrats once again,” Murray-Bruce said.
Johnson was on Tuesday elected UK Prime Minister after a ballot with 159,320 Tory members. He won by a substantial margin over Jeremy Hunt, by 92,153 votes to 46,656. He is to take over from Theresa May on Wednesday.
Johnson, a staunch Brexiteer, had in July 2018 resigned as foreign secretary to protest his disagreement with Mrs May’s Brexit strategy.
UK Parliament knocked off May’s Brexit plan three times, forcing her to resign for a new leader to oversee Britain’s arduous departure from Europe.
