A woman, Charity Effiong, has reportedly inserted pepper into the private part of her housemaid, Precious Nwali, over some missing N26,000.
The incident is said to have occurred at Nzekwe Street, near Akwata meat market in Awka, Anambra state.
Nwali, 12, a native of Ebonyi State, was according to a report by The Nation, driven out of the house at night after the said assault.
The victim, a primary four pupil, was found by a woman, Amaka Okoye, while wandering in the market.
Nwali told her rescuer that she was always subjected to assaults by her mistress through the use of cable wire.
A cleric, Pastor Effiong Inyang, said to have brought Nwali and her mistress together, said the victim’s parents gave her out to stay with Mrs Effiong because of their poor financial state.
“All her siblings are being given out because her parents are struggling to survive due to the condition of the family,” he said.
Secretary of Anambra State Child Protection Network, Hope Okoye, said the act was a total violation to the state child right act of 2004.
The suspect is reportedly being detained on the order of the DPO in charge of the Central Police Station, Awka.
Anambra police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said the case is under investigation, and that the suspect denied applying pepper in the victim’s private part.
