Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has closed his defence before the state governorship elections tribunal after calling two witnesses.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru, had filed the petition, seeking to upturn the declaration of El-Rufai as winner of the governorship election in Kaduna.
At Wednesday’s sitting, El-Rufai’s second witness, Olufemi Ayodele, a forensic and hand-writing expert, adopted his written statement as evidence before the tribunal.
The tribunal adjourned until Thursday to enable the third respondent, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to continue with its defence.
Speaking after the proceedings, El-Rufai’s counsel, Abdul-Hakeem Mustapha, said it was not about how many witnesses one produced, but the quality of witnesses presented.
Mr Mustapha said the two witnesses presented by his client had provided sufficient evidence to defend his mandate before the tribunal.
