Personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, has apologised for his misleading tweet on the release of the kidnapped students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
Ahmad had tweeted on Wednesday that the three students who were kidnapped on Monday along Abuja-Kaduna highway by unknown gunmen were rescued by the police.

Reports also read that the police led the rescue of the students.
However, a relative of one of the kidnapped students, Sadiq Ango, said the police lied and that ransom was paid for the release of the students.
After coming under criticism, Ahmad said in a tweet on Thursday that he confirmed there was no police involvement in the release of the victims.
He subsequently deleted the tweet and apologised for his error.

“I have taken down this tweet. Relatives and one of the victims confirmed that there’s no police involvement in the process that lead to their release. Got the info first from NAN, mins later some n’papers carried it, too bad👮🏾♂️was trying to take credit. I apologize for sharing it,” he said.
Ahmad was in April caught up in an argument with Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, over the latter’s comments about Nigeria being hellish under Mr Buhari’s administration.
