The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has begun the delivery of its much-anticipated judgement in the petition filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The petitioners are challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 election.

Among those who are in court to witness the delivery of the judgement on Wednesday are the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; and the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; and a former national chairman of the party, Bisi Akande, are also in Abuja for the verdict.

The tribunal dismissed an application by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking the court to strike out PDP’s petition against Buhari because the petitioners failed to join Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo in the petition.

The five-member panel led by Garba Mohammed, who read the lead ruling, said it was not necessary for Mr Osinbajo to join in the petition.
