Akinwumi Adesina remembers ‘great’ mentor on 10th death anniversary

President of African Development Bank (AfD), Akinwumi Adesina, has remembered his ‘great’ mentor, Norman Borlaug.

Borlaug was an American agronomist who led initiatives worldwide that contributed to the extensive increases in agricultural production termed the Green Revolution.

In a tweet on Friday, Adesina, a former minister of agriculture and rural development, said Borlaug’s passion and love for mankind were unmatched, vowing to continue in his footsteps.

“My great mentor, Dr Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, the man who fed a billion people, passed on 10 years ago. Your passion, energy & love for mankind are unmatched. We’ll complete the work for a hunger-free world. Smile on…rest well. ⁦@WorldFoodPrize⁩ 💕❤️,” he said.

Borlaug was awarded multiple honours for his work, including the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.

He died on September 12, 2009, aged 95.
