Former Governor Ibrahim Idris has rejected an appointment as the chairman of the Kogi State Governorship Campaign Council by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Senator Dino Melaye had made a similar rejection weeks ago.

In a statement on Monday by Idris’ media office, the former governor said he was not consulted before the appointment was made.

Idris said that he learnt about his appointment on social media.

Musa, younger brother of the state’s former governor Idris Wada, won the party’s primary on September 4 with 748 votes which gunmen were said to have invaded.

According to reports, votes in eight out of the 10 ballot boxes had already been counted and sorted before the disruption by the gunmen.

Idris said a lot of issues arising from the primary are still unresolved as the aggrieved parties are in court to seek redress.

The ex-governor stated that he was out of the country on vacation and would not return any time soon.

He wondered why the party did not seek his confirmation before going to the press to announce his appointment as chair of the campaign council.

He asked to be excused and wished the council well.

The PDP had announced on September 21 that Idris would head the council, with Senator Tunde Ogbeha who represented the Kogi West senatorial district from 1999-2007, serving as deputy chairman; and Badamasuyi Abdulrahaman as secretary.
