Igando-Ikotun LCDA trains over 500 women on skills acquisition

Igando-Ikotun Local Government Council Development Area, LCDA in partnership with SPEED UP LAGOS Initiative has empowered no fewer than 500 women with various skills acquisition through training.

The Executive Chairman of the council, Morenike Adesina-Williams made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Adesina-Williams said the council would continue to partner with the state government, companies, organisations and individuals of repute with brilliant ideas to free the citizenry from poverty.

“We at Igando-Ikotun LCDA will continue to partner with the state government to set our people free from poverty.

“We, therefore, call for partnership from organisations and individuals of repute with brilliant ideas like that of our erudite governor to empower our people, especially women and youths,” she said.

The council’s boss commended the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his passion in making women in the state self-reliant.

“The programme: Sanwo-Olu Projecting, Enhancing, Elevating, Developing, Upgrading and Perfecting LAGOS (SPEED UP LAGOS) was initiated and designed by the state government to enable our women to be self-reliant.

“Few months into office, our governor has started on a good note. We give him kudos for this vision and excellent initiative.

“This is to me, a laudable initiative and a great opportunity that afforded our women to be independent,’’ Adesina-Williams said in a statement issued by Mrs Bukola Fadolamu, the Council’s Head of Public Affairs Unit.

She advised the trainees to improve on what they had learnt by putting it into practice.

“I advise you to make good use of all you have learnt here; a thousand miles they say, start with a step.

“You have embarked on the journey to a successful life by carrying out the first step of attending this training.

“Don’t leave here and stay at home; make sure you put all you have learnt into practice, “ she said.

In his remark, the Leader of the Legislative arm, Dauda Gbadamosi, enjoined the trainees to see the empowerment programme as an opportunity to transform themselves to be a boss.

The Council’s Manager, Mr Olalere Olanrewaju, also commended the governor and the council’s chairman for the initiative, noting that the empowerment was the right step in the right direction.

“Women are the bedrock of any society. Empower a woman and build a nation,’’ he said.

Skills learnt during the training are: Home Essentials products, Fabric Design, Make Up and Head Gear, Catering Classical, Souvenir bags, Customised and Printing of gift items.
