Plateau govt. says will focus investments on agriculture, mining, tourism

The Plateau Government says it has resolved to focus more investments on agriculture, mining and tourism sectors in line with the next level agenda for the state.

According to the government, the state has comparative advantage in those three sectors to generate more revenue internally.

A communiqué issued after a Strategic Policy Retreat for members of the State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries and Head of Government Agencies and Departments made this known.

The communiqué made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday by the Dr Simon Macham, the Director of Press and Public Affairs indicated that the retreat held from October 28 to November 1.

It said that the resolve to invest in those areas was to boost revenue generation, job creation, and sustainable development in the state.

It said that there must be a complete paradigm shift from dependence on federal allocation for overheads and capital projects toward greater reliance on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“Resolved that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies  (MDAs) must embark on creative Internal Revenue Generation from  2020 by leveraging additional funding sources”.

Participants also lauded the state government for the subsequent establishment of the State Livestock  Transformation Office to facilitate ranching.

“This will go a long way in resolving farmers/herders conflicts and creating jobs in the agro-allied sector.”

The participants applauded the Project Management Office (PMO) under the office of the Chief of Staff saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and evaluating all MDAs.

It noted that the essence of PMO was to monitor and evaluate key performance indicators to ensure quality and to track attainment of set targets.

The communiqué said that commissioners, permanent secretaries and other senior government officials should work as a team in providing leadership and direction toward the delivery of set targets in the next level.
