Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appointed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as chairman of Kano State Council of Chiefs.
Ganduje’s spokesman, Abba Anwar, said in a statement on Monday that the appointment takes immediate effect.

The appointment disproves rumours making the rounds that Ganduje was planning on giving the position to the emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Mr Anwar said the newly appointed emirs of Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye would serve as members of the council.
“It is also directed that the Chairman shall immediately summon the inaugural meeting of the Council in accordance with the provisions of the Law,” the statement said.
Ganduje signed the new law creating the four new emirates last week; hours after the Kano assembly passed it.

The governor says the headship of the council would be rotational among the emirs.
It is not known if Sanusi would accept the new appointment.
