The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled against the bail application of the convicted former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu.
Justice Mohammed Liman on Monday dismissed the application for lacking in merit.

The former governor will now remain in prison for Christmas pending his appeal.
Kalu last Tuesday filed the application for bail pending hearing of the appeal of his conviction on health grounds.
But the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opposed the application, arguing that bail is for accused persons on the presumption of being innocent.

The anti-graft agency said that Kalu could no longer enjoy such privilege since he has been convicted.
Kalu was jailed on December 5 for 12 years after being found guilty of N7.65 million fraud.
