Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has suspended an order barring persons of opposite genders from boarding same commercial tricycles across the state from January 2020.
The governor is said to have suspended the order following public outcry.

Commander General of Hisbah Board, Harun Ibn-Sina, had announced the ban last Wednesday at the closing ceremony of 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by Zone A of Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) held at Bayero University, Kano.
Ganduje, reports say, held “wide consultations and extensive deliberation with top government officials on their views on how to implement the law.”
Hisbah Board spokesperson, Lawan Fagge, said on Tuesday that the order has been suspended.
“The law has been suspended till further notice. The decision was taken after consultation with leadership of commercial tricycle operators who pleaded for extending the implementation date,” he said.
Former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau introduced commercial tricycles known as ‘A daidaita sahu’ in Kano during his administration as means of transportation for women only.

Shekarau also banned commercial motorcyclists from conveying women.
However, since Shekarau’s departure, commercial tricyclists began conveying people of both genders.
