The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear the appeal filed by the 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Alex Otti, challenging the re-election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri had last Saturday struck out the appeal filed by Otti and validated Ikpeazu’s victory.
Ikpeazu was re-elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Before Otti took the case to the appeal court, a three-man panel of the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia, and chaired by Justice A. L. Ogumoye, had dismissed his petition.
The tribunal ruled that the petitioner failed to prove the case of over-voting, non-compliance to election guidelines and the electoral act.
Otti had prayed the tribunal to cancel election results in 15 out of the 17 local government areas in Abia, alleging that Ikpeazu perpetrated excessive malpractice in those LGAs in the election held on March 9.
