Toyin Saraki, wife of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has lost an associate, Dr Benjamin Anyene.
The 55-year-old announced the loss on social media on Tuesday, saying she was saddened by his death. She did not reveal the cause of death.
“I am deeply saddened to learn that a very dear and highly respected colleague and associate, Dr Ben Anyene has passed on,” she said.
“It was equally a privilege to join Dr Anyene as a Fellow of the West African Academy of Public Health FAAPH, an academic body with the mission of strengthening and promoting important research collaborations in the West African Region.”
Mrs Saraki added: “I and the Wellbeing Foundation Africa express our sincere condolences to the cherished family, friends and colleagues of Dr Benjamin Anyene. We will miss him greatly and pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. Amen.”
According to Saraki, Anyene, a medical doctor, was the former chief executive of the HERFON Health Sector Reform Coalition; ex-chairman of NPHD Ltd and was a microbiologist with over 30 years’ experience.
“Dr. Anyene possessed considerable experience in health systems management, with skills in human resource management, performance-based financing and contracting, health facility rehabilitation, nutrition and nutrition counselling. Others included project management, strategic planning, conflict resolution and knowledge management, advocacy, policy analysis and development,” she said.
