Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho, has lost his appeal against a suspended stadium ban, the England’s Football Association has announced.
Mourinho was handed the suspended ban, along with a £50,000 fine, for comments about the referee after his side’s defeat to Southampton on October 3.
The Portuguese gaffer suggested in an interview that referees were “afraid” to award penalties to his team following the Blue’s 3-1 home defeat to the Saints .
He however confirmed his intention to appeal shortly after but the FA confirmed on Thursday that the initial decision had been upheld.
An FA statement read: “An Appeal Board has dismissed the appeal from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in relation to a decision made by an Independent Regulatory Commission.
“At the original commission hearing, Mr Mourinho was given a suspended one-match stadium ban and fined £50,000 after he admitted a breach of FA Rules in relation to post-match media comments made following the game against Southampton on Saturday 3 October 2015.
“The Appeal Board has upheld the original sanction and therefore it remains that Mr Mourinho’s suspended stadium ban will be immediately invoked should he be found by an Independent Regulatory Commission to have committed a further breach of FA Rule E3 for any comment or statement to or through the media before 13 October 2016.”
The statement means Mourinho’s stadium ban will be invoked if he is guilty of further misconduct relating to media comments.
He admitted another misconduct charge after being sent off against West Ham on October 24.
The 52-year-old was given a one-match stadium ban with immediate effect and also fined £40,000 fine for speaking to referee Jon Moss at half-time during the 2-1 defeat by the Hammers.
He is set to miss this Saturday’s game against Stoke unless he appeals against the punishment.
The FA said that the two charges were regarded as different types of misconduct, so the latest charge, incurred at Upton Park, would not trigger the suspended stadium ban received for his behaviour following the loss to Southampton.
