British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, on Saturday prostrated before President Muhammadu Buhari during a meeting in London.
Prostrating before elders is a sign of respect in Nigeria especially among the Yoruba.
The boxer met President Buhari, who is in the United Kingdom for the inaugural UK-Africa Investment Summit, shortly after being received by the chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Joshua’s gesture attracted applause from all who were present in the room. He repeated it at another setting.
Joshua presented his IBF, WBO, WBA and IBO heavyweight titles to Buhari.
The boxer reclaimed the titles last December from Mexican-American boxer, Andy Ruiz Jr., through a unanimous points decision in Saudi Arabia.
He had earlier lost the titles to Ruiz in June 2019.
President Buhari, however, is expected back in Nigeria on Thursday.
