President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has announced that the body has set up a committee to raise funds for its ailing member, Ernest Asuzu.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, Mr Rollas said other members of the guild had begun to respond to the directives of the association toward assisting Mr Asuzu who suffered a stroke in 2015.
He said: “Ernest Asuzu is one of us. I have always identified with him since he developed stroke until there was a break in communication between them, but thank God that we have reconnected.
“We are following up on our promises and have swung into action by setting up a special fundraising committee for him through which our members can assist him.”
The AGN leader also said the body was planning to move Asuzu to a better-equipped hospital in Abuja for better treatment.
Rollas said he had hope that it would be achieved with assistance from the public.
He also said the AGN was working with health management organisations to improve the wellbeing of its members.
“Sound health is paramount; that is the reason why we are working to strike a deal with the various health management organisations for our members,” he said.
“Through that, our members will be allowed to enjoy medical checks and treatments with little payment.”
