Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has confirmed that the police officers who allegedly caused the death of a footballer signed to Remo Stars FC have been arrested.
In a press briefing late Monday, Mr Abiodun said the policemen were arrested following his order.
“Indeed, the two officers – the leader of the team (an Assistant Superintendent of Police) and the other officer (an Inspector of Police) – have since been arrested and detained,” he said.
The governor assured that the matter would not be treated ‘lightly’, adding that his administration’s priority was “to ensure a safe and secure society.”
He also condemned attempts by youths to “attack the Divisional Police Station, burn the police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), and even loot the banks and local government headquarters.”
Abidoun said anyone caught causing trouble over the incident would face the wrath of the law.
Tiamiyu Kazeem was allegedly pushed from a police van to an oncoming vehicle on Saturday. He died moments later.
The defender was said to have had a scuffle with the police along Sagamu over his identity after being allegedly branded an internet fraudster.
There have been protests in Sagamu since the incident occurred.
