Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, clocked 23 on Wednesday, November 11.
However, in spite of the female disk jockey’s prowess at home and abroad many still think her only claim to fame is her billionaire father, Femi Otedola.
To celebrate her, we look at five times she proved she was more than a billionaire’s daughter.
- At 16, she bought second-hand equipment and started playing in clubs in the US when she could have used her father’s money to build her own club here in Nigeria.
- She embarked on a humanitarian mission tagged Cuppy Takes Africa in August 2015 because she saw herself more than an entitled child.
- Instead of writing about her billionaire father who is no doubt an interesting topic, she made her debut as a contributing writer for Forbes Woman Africa with the article ‘Who will be the next Fela Kuti’ in August 2015.
- Cuppy did not limit herself to her father ‘s influence in Nigeria, instead she expanded her coast when she performed at American designer, Diane Von Furstenberg’s DVF Awards which was attended by America’s presidential aspirant, Hilary Clinton.
- In April, she was appointed as a tourism ambassador because of her song ‘I Love My Country’, which, according to the government, will help influence youths positively.
