The deposed emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, is allegedly being denied access to visitors in his new abode in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Visitors have been denied access to the deposed monarch since he arrived Awe on Wednesday morning from Loko, another town in the state, TheCable reports on Thursday.
Sanusi is being guarded by at least 30 police officers and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
He was sent to Nasarawa after being removed from his position on Monday.
The online news platform said it spoke with four police officers at different times, seeking entry into the house, but they all said they had ‘strict orders’ not to let anyone in.
A supporter of the deposed traditional ruler was said to have tried to take pictures but had his phone seized and made to do ‘frog jumps’ as punishment.
“He is just living like a prisoner; most of the people coming are not allowed to see him. His family came to see him, some see him and go, a few of them are still around,” a resident, Ibrahim Akilu, was quoted saying.
One of Sanusi’s wives and children arrived Awe on Wednesday with escorts. It was unclear if they were allowed to stay.
Another source was quoted saying rumours have it that Sanusi would not be allowed to leave the house for three months.
Kano State Government denies sending Sanusi on exile. His lawyers have, however, proceeded with a legal suit to stop his forced relocation to Nasarawa which they say violates his rights.
