Suleiman Abba became Nigeria’s 17th indigenous Inspector-General of Police on August 1, 2014 after taking over from Mohammed Abubakar. His appointment was announced the day before. Here are eight quick things to know about him:
1. He is from Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
2. He enlisted in the Nigerian Police as cadet inspector on December 31, 1984.
3. He served as Aide de Camp (ADC) to Maryam Abacha, wife of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha from 1995 to 1998.
4. He holds degrees in History and Law and has attended several management and security courses within and outside Nigeria.
5. He is an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS.
6. Until his appointment, he was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 7, Abuja.
7. Positions previously held by him in the Police include Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.
8. He is due for retirement on March 22, 2019
